It seems like everyone has an opinion about writing and publishing.
“You should do it this way.”
“That’s not a real book unless…”
“You’ll never make money doing it like that.”
And while advice can sometimes be helpful, the constant noise of other people’s opinions can do the opposite of what’s intended. Instead of encouragement, it can leave writers second-guessing their voice, doubting their stories, or even giving up before they’ve begun.
The truth is, publishing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some authors self-publish. Others go traditional. Some tell deeply personal memoirs. Others create whimsical children’s books. Every path, every process, every voice matters.
What doesn’t matter? The peanut gallery of opinions that serve more as walls than bridges.
If you’re a writer, here’s your reminder: protect your dream. Write your story anyway. Publish in the way that feels right for you. Ignore the noise long enough to hear the quiet but steady voice inside that says, “This story matters.”
Because it does.
