There is so much centered around the use of AI in writing, from schoolwork to professional pieces to book writing. Unfortunately, as technology grows, we must decide to lean into it or fall behind. As a Gen X, I remember when the internet went from businesses, to schools, to personal home use. It was scary, and now, my kids don’t even know a world without it.
I get asked often if I use AI. Four months ago, I didn’t, but over the summer I dived into ways it could support what was already flowing from me. Like a personal assistant of sorts. I played around and found my comfort level. Writing content is NOT my comfort zone with AI, but as a solo entrepreneur that now leads an entire publishing team, having the ability to bounce ideas off in my time, is super valuable to me. I also enjoy creating outlines for projects with AI because I can edit suggestions to what my heart is most aligned with.
5 Reasons to Use AI as a Partner, Not a Ghostwriter
1. Jumpstarts Creativity, Not Replaces It
AI is great at breaking through writer’s block, generating prompts, brainstorming chapter ideas, or rephrasing clunky sentences. But your lived experience, voice, and emotional truth are what give the story depth. Without you, it’s just words without resonance.
2. Saves Time on Structure and Research
AI can outline chapters, summarize research, or organize your notes quickly. This gives you more energy to focus on the actual storytelling instead of wrestling with logistics. You stay the visionary; AI helps with the scaffolding. Efficiency is everything.
3. Keeps the Writing Flowing
On days when writing feels heavy, AI can draft rough passages, so you don’t lose momentum. But then you step in to revise, shape, and infuse your personality, keeping the book yours.
4. Supports, But Can’t Replace Emotional Truth
Readers connect to authentic emotion. AI can simulate style, but it can’t recreate the nuance of your childhood memory, the heartbreak of loss, or the joy of transformation. That part only you can provide.
5. Enhances Collaboration & Learning
Think of AI as a co-writer who never tires of brainstorming. It teaches you new phrasing, shows different angles, and provides feedback loops. But like any collaborator, it works best when you lead. You’re the storyteller; AI is the assistant.
AI is like a paintbrush, powerful in the right hands, but the art only exists when the artist (you) picks it up. The best books will be written when human truth meets technological assistance.
But remember, AI is a tool, not a replacement and it WILL alter the way you start to think and feel if used too much.
Stay you, stay authentic! 💜
